JeffersontownVeteransMemorial
Park
is a small, but interesting park on a hill near downtown
Jeffersontown
. In addition to the usual park fair of playgrounds, shelters and walking trails, this park has several restored Military
Items to explore. Consistent with its name, the park also has the Veterans Walk, a memorial to those who served or were
lost during Military service. During the Holidays, the park plays host to a Modest
Christmas light display that’s worth checking out if you live nearby.
The park’s playgrounds,
trails and facilities are all nice and on par with that
of other
Louisville
parks. But if you don’t live nearby,
what really makes this park potentially worth visiting is the Military Equipment
and Memorial. Obviously, if you served
in the military or love someone who did, the park has merits and will be of interest. On the other hand, if you have kids
or if you have interest in war machines, the park is interesting because you can
get close and touch and feel an M-60 Tank, a Mark 14 Torpedo, two naval Deck guns
and a UH 1H Huey Helicopter. All the
military equipment has been restored and is in excellent shape.

The park has a short paved walking trail that meanders down by a creak, but traffic
noise will prevent you from finding piece and the walk will be over soon after you
start. There
are two good playgrounds,
one is geared more for smaller children and has good tree cover, and the other is
larger and unprotected. A basketball
court and several shelters with grills are also available.
If you are looking for a place to take the kids and enjoy some nice weather,
this park is good if you live in the area.
If not, it’s probably not worth the drive unless you have some interest Military
history or service.
